Supporting International Women’s Day with MK Soroptimists

We were delighted to attend the International Women’s Day event organised by MK Soroptimists, where an inspiring afternoon tea was held to raise funds for our local women’s domestic violence service. The event also supported their important project aimed at engaging young boys in conversations about women’s rights and domestic violence awareness.

The afternoon featured insightful talks from the Mayoress, Marie Bradburn, and MP Emily Darlington, highlighting the incredible work being done to support women in our community.
It was an honour to be part of such a meaningful cause, and we are grateful to MK Soroptimists for their dedication to raising awareness and making a difference.

Our courses and workshops have helped clients to tailor their job search, structure their CVs, provide tools to help their confidence and we even help clients develop their English speaking skills. Many of these skills are important in the world of work or socialising and there will always be people that are in need of a little support.

June 2024

We are excited to be running a clothes drive in centre:mk. We support many people in Milton Keynes with their return to work through coaching and building confidence to find work that aligns with their interests and needs.
The aim of this event is to ensure we have a range of sizes and styles to support as many of our clients as possible. We create a personalised look and capsule wardrobe so that people can put their best step forward at interviews and in their first weeks on the job. If you are a businesses please share this initiative with staff. We have already received generous donations of women's and men's suits and blouses from generous people and hope to collect more over the weekend.

Thank you to centre:mk for helping us make this event a success!

Returning to our roots...

Our charity originally began as Women and Work back in 1978. It wasn't until 2013 that we rebranded as Works for Us and saw more men accessing our holistic support and looking to gain confidence and personal skills for a return to work.

We have always valued the need for specialised support for Women, particularly single parents who have taken an extended time out of work and due to childcare commitments would struggle to access our in-person support. The programme provides a flexible and manageable option to be better prepare for their return.

The New BeginHER's project will be running through 2024.

Through funding from Places for People we have been able to bring together a specialist programme of one-to-one coaching and courses design especially for
Women contemplating or ready for a return to work.
